is one of Sweden´s oldest orchestras, founded in 1906. For the first
94 years, however, it was known as the "Stockholm Tramways Band".
The orchestra appeared as a result of cooperation between the Stockholm
Tramways and the Swedish Tramway Association - Section 1. First, a Brass
Sextet was formed and this rapidly grew into a complete band. From the
year 2000, the Stockholm Wind Symphony has operated under the aegis of
the Stockholm County Council. The orchestra is Stockholm's only and Sweden's
largest non-military professional symphonic wind orchestra, with 45 musicians.
